Flu season is well upon Sacramento, and the added pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic has created an even greater need for flu shots to be accessible to all communities across the city. To increase access to flu shots and other important health services the Sacramento Promise Zone, Health Net, Mutual Assistance Network, Sacramento Covered, and St. Paul Church of God in Christ partnered to put on the Fall Flu-Vention health event on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Hosted by Pastor Larry Joyner at the St. Paul Church of God in Christ, the health event was able to take place during the church’s weekly food distribution. Ample outdoor space allowed attendees, providers, and volunteers to practice physical distancing and COVID-19 safety precautions. Approximately 100 attendees and volunteers had the opportunity to receive free flu shots, blood pressure and diabetes screenings, as well as education materials on asthma and health insurance prior to picking up food items.
Please encourage the people that you serve and your networks to follow the Sacramento Promise Zone on Facebook and Twitter so that they will be aware of events and resources across all sectors (health, education, jobs, sustainability, etc.).
